Practice problem
0 of 0 correct · Streak: 0
The order is Quorvane 95 mg by injection. The vial has 50 mg in 1 mL. How many mL do you draw up?
Round to the nearest tenth.

- No limits per day.
- Your answers stay on your device.
- One page does one job.
How to solve it
Make the units the same. Divide the dose ordered by the dose on hand. Multiply the result by the volume that holds the dose on hand. The answer is in mL.
Worked example
The order is Calvorin 540 mg by injection. The vial has 500 mg in 2 mL. How many mL do you draw up?
Solution
- Desired = 540 mg. Have = 500 mg in 2 mL.
- (540 mg ÷ 500 mg) × 2 mL = 2.16 mL, rounded to 2.2 mL.
Formula: Volume = (desired ÷ have) × quantity
Answer: 2.2 mL
Questions
How do I find the volume to draw up?
Divide the dose ordered by the dose on hand. Multiply by the volume that holds the dose on hand. The answer is in mL.
How do I round an injection volume?
Read the rule in the problem. Many syringes show tenths of a mL. Some small syringes show hundredths of a mL.
What if the dose is in units?
Use the same steps. Divide the units ordered by the units on hand. Multiply by the mL that hold the units on hand.
What does the rounding message mean?
Your number is right, but you did not round it as the problem asks. Round it the way the problem says. Then type it again.
